Latex Template For Your Thesis
As i reach the end of my diploma, i start looking for some nice latex templates to begin writing my thesis. If you google for that you will find many templates online and free (of course). A latex template can save you a lot of work as it can be very useful.
This post describes a latex template i found that it’ll help you produce your thesis document or a report. From here you can download this template that has everything you need to begin writing! and i will guide you through the necessary steps, to get started.
First of all you have to install Latex software in your OS. For this step follow these instructions(if you have done it, skip it).
After the installation of the required software, download this template and unpack it. Open the folder and find the file with the name “thesis.tex” and open it. In the first step you installed all the software you needed to use latex, so by double clicking this file the right application will be activated and you will be able to start editing this file for your thesis.
This is the main file in which you will make any changes. It contains a lot of in-line comments that explain each latex command so it requires minimal knowledge of latex.
For this template you can find more information here.
For greek use, you have to download and install a package called greektext. Then in the template folder go /Classes/CUEDthesisPSnPDF.cls and open the file. Ok! don’t get lost...The only thing you have to do is to remove some commands and to add some others.
In the beginning of the file you will find a \usepackage section. Find the command “\usepackage{english}[babel]” and delete it or add a comment tag(using % before the command) and also type the command “\usepackage{greektext}” (without the quotes). Save the file. Now, go back to the template folder and open the “thesis.tex” file. Typeset the document and you will reach an error. Look at the thesis console window (if you use texshop), press Goto Error and delete the highlighted line (\selectlanguage{english}). Go back to the thesis.tex document and typeset again. If you installed the package correctly you will not get any errors this time! By installing this package, you don’t have to use the \textlatin or \textgreek commands for changing the input language.
For Mac users there is a graphical interface that helps you create, manage and edit your citations and then you can export them as a .bib file and include it in your Latex document. The application is called Bibdesk and it’s free to download.
Now i will tell you how to use Bibdesk to create a new bibliography from scratch.
1.Open Bibdesk. An untitled bibliography window will show up.

2. Click the green cross (toolTipText : “create new publication”)
1.Choose the type of publication from the drop - down menu (the default is “article”)
2.Enter a cite-key manually or let Bibdesk do it for you by navigating to the publication menu and selecting the “Generate Cite Key” option.
3.Enter the information in the fields.
4.Once you have finished your bibliography you can export it as a .bib file so you can include it later in your latex document. Click file, then export, select your destination folder and save. Now you can call your reference file inside your tex document.
5.To make your references appear in your document you have to make three simple steps first.
a)Compile your document for LaTeX
b)Compile your document for BibTeX
c)Re-compile it for LaTeX and you are done!
If you already have a .bib file you can open it with Bibdesk and edit it or add/remove more bibliographies and then export it again. This is the basic function of this application but if you dig it better you will see that it has and other features to offer.
